Torben provides commercially focused, creative advice on obtaining, enforcing and exploiting patent rights. He has drafted and prosecuted hundreds of patent applications relating to advanced technological developments such as pharmaceutical and agrochemical compositions, chemical synthesis, medical devices, and industrial plants for food or energy preparation.
Further, he has personally handled numerous opposition proceedings before the opposition divisions and boards of appeal of the European Patent Office. Torben is a court appointed expert and he frequently is involved in domestic and foreign patent litigation. Torben has also drafted several patentability, non-infringement, validity/invalidity, and freedom-to-operate/clearance opinions.
Torben has considerable experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors as well as the nanotech and cleantech sectors. He prepares and prosecutes patent applications primarily in the life science disciplines but also has substantial experience in industrial processes and medical devices.
As a tutor in CEIPI, Torben teaches candidates for the European Qualifying Examination in the art of European patent practice.
Prior to joining Nordic Patent Service, Torben spent more than 20 years at a major patent law firm in Denmark handling inventions relating to various technical areas and a wide range of clients. He has also been the patent manager of two biotech start-up companies assisting them in building a solid patent foundation. Prior to becoming a European patent attorney, Torben worked two years at the Danish Patent Office where he examined patent applications relating to the pharmaceutical area.
