On 17 May 2018, the Danish parliament passed a new law with 100 votes for and 79 absent providing European Patent Attorneys the same legal professional privilege that Attorneys at Law have. This is to protect all communications between an Attorney and his or her clients from being disclosed to anyone without the permission of the client.
The purpose behind this legal principle is to protect clients’ ability to access the justice system by encouraging complete disclosure to legal advisers without the fear that any disclosure of those communications may prejudice the client in the future.
We are very pleased with this new law which warrants that European Patent Attorneys can maintain full client confidentiality for all communications with their client.
